Livingstone - The 90's Indie Band

Hear some shameless plugging for this blog on Steve Lamacq's 6 Music Show

UPDATE 2022 - Full video for So Tough!

UPDATE 2021 -  Hear three of the live John Peel session tracks! | Livingstone album set for release/full track listing

Hi. This is a blogspot about the 1990's Indie band Livingstone.

Not heard of them? That's ok, not many people have - or rather, not enough people have. Releasing three brilliant singles in the mid 1990's, the band were on the edge of breaking through when their debut album was pulled from release. Shortly after, the record label closed and the band broke up.

So why does this page exist for such a short-lived band? Well, you can find just about anything on the internet, but when it came to Livingstone there was next to nothing. So, for the quality of their music, they deserve at least something online to acknowledge their short existence.

Click on the links below/on the side for more on the band, and to hear their music. And if you'd like to get in touch, please leave a comment. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Wow, thanks for pulling this together! I've had their 3 singles for 20+ years and always hoped to hear the long-rumored debut LP. You'd think after all this time it would have appeared on the net but no!

    1. Thanks Mitch - glad to hear of another fan in exactly the same position as the rest of us! Hopefully we'll turn up the album very soon, I'm hopeful of a few kind people in the music industry who have said they'll help.

  3. Loved Livin stone, they suppored the 60ft dolls for about 10 dates in 1996.
I was working for the dolls, they were great lads and I kept in touch with Andy for a while after.
I arranged for the band I was managing to support Livingstone at break for the border, so Ideal sup ported Livingstone, what a night.
I still have their so tough single, also have their 10' ep as well.
One of my fave bands of the period and heard the single on radio 6 today.
    Long live Livingstone !!

    1. Hi Julian and thanks for the message and the info - 60ft Dolls were a cracking band and a good fit for Livingstone to tour with. Glad you heard the single on 6 Music today, lots of people have commented again how much they like the music and the band :)

    2. Have emailed the blog mentioning this, just in case he hasn’t seen your post :). This has been a long find and although it’s not over yet, that’s eight songs we’ve found from what might be an 11 or 13 track album.

Songs mentioned in the Select interview we still have to find….
ioned in the review not released as singles

      John Wayne
      Saturday Night
      Rhesus Positive

    4. Hi chaps - more details on the album and track-listing are now available on this page:

      https://livingstonethe90sband.blogspot.com/2017/03/livingstone-their-music.html

Having checked, Rhesus Positive is not a song title after all - just the quick summary that Select would add at the bottom of an album review. A rather tortured pun about blood types (rhesus negative/rhesus positive) and rhesus monkeys - I had to look all that up.

  6. So glad I stumbled across this page - huge Livingstone fan, and as you say there's nothing out there on the internet at all!

I only caught them live once, but if anyone by any remote chance knows the date of the gig so I can add it to my list it would be amazing. It was in Cheltenham at the Axiom in either late 96 or early 97 - my memory might be a bit iffy here but I think it was supporting Ballroom maybe?

    1. Actually seeing Julian's post above, I might have got it mostly wrong and that was the gig!

    2. Hi Mike - thanks so much for the comment and glad you found the site. As well as the album there are a few live recordings out there, mainly on old reel-to-reel tape, but there are moves afoot to get them digitised at some point. Hopefully 2022 will be the year we get to hear everything :)
